The covered topics are the ones of the projects selected by the scientific and technical board. No topic is a priori excluded. In order to be eligible, surveys must have an exclusively scientific purpose. In other words, the purpose cannot serve the particular interests of public or private institutions.

The response rates vary between 83% and 93%.

The annual survey

The ELIPSS annual survey aims to identify numerous socio-demographic variables (identification module) as well as cross variables and indicators that are frequently used in the humanities and social sciences (barometric module). The questionnaire was built together with several researchers specialised in the subjects covered, and with members of the scientific and technical board. In addition, the chosen questions were, to a very large extent, derived from existing surveys and a significant part of the questions will be repeated once a year. Most of the variables derived from the identification module and certain variables of the barometric module are systematically matched with available data files.

  • the identification module deals with the following questions:
    - the panel member’s civil status,
    - work and training,
    - socio-demographic description of the household,
    - housing and neighborhood,
    - income and wealth.

  • the barometric module deals with the following questions:
    - social ties,
    - leisure practices, cultural practices,
    - religious beliefs and practices,
    - political behavior and opinions,
    - health status and behavior,
    - lifestyle.

The list of the variables matched with the surveys can be downloaded here and the questionnaire of the ELIPSS annual survey is available on request.
